Henry Lassiter Dickens of Roanoke Rapids, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025 with his wife by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Furgerson Dickens and Maidie Crawley Dickens, his brother, Alton Keith Dickens, and an infant son, Dave Dickens.

Henry graduated from William R. Davie High School in 1958 and attended NC State University. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Army. He served his community by being on the Roanoke Rapids Planning Board when he was a Roanoke Rapids city resident and spent many years on the Davie Volunteer Fire Department Board.

He started an income tax business in 1966 and was also an insurance agent and real estate broker for many years. He loved old western movies, Elvis, Johnny Cash, country music, baseball and trivia. He held a vast knowledge of many subjects, which he was always willing to freely share with anyone who had a question.

Henry was kind and generous, considered his employees family and loved them dearly.

He grew up in the Methodist faith and joined Ebenezer Methodist Church when he was young.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy Wood Dickens; his niece, Christy Wood Loyd and her husband, Patrick and their children, Lizzy and Reni of Leland, NC; his nephews, Morris Dickens and his wife, Cary of Kansas City, MO, Rene’ Dickens and his wife, Toni of Lake Gaston; several great-nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Betty Dickens and Nancy Wood; godchildren, Wesley and Caroline Morrison; best friends, Charles Morrison, Charles (Gus) Allen, and Tom Shell. He is also survived by countless tax clients he has served during his 59 years in business who have become dear friends.

Following Henry’s wishes, there will be no memorial service, but a visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at Askew Funeral Home.
