A Roanoke Rapids man remains in the Halifax County Detention after he was charged Thursday with 10 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor for reportedly possessing child pornographic material.

Kirklin Jones Grandy, 29, awaits a November 14 district court date.

His arrest was the result of an investigation that began early this month when Roanoke Rapids police investigators received information from a law enforcement source regarding an address within the city that had been tied to receiving and downloading child pornography over the internet, Chief Shane Guyant said.

After surveillance, further court orders, and a continued investigation, Investigator S. Bryant identified Gandy as the purported suspect.

On Thursday criminal investigators with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, and agents with the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force executed a search warrant in the 1400 block of East Chaloner Drive shortly after 3 p.m.

During the residence search, numerous electronic and digital storage devices were located.  These devices held digital images of child pornography that Gandy had allegedly downloaded.   Gandy was arrested at the residence where the search warrant was conducted. He received a $300,000 secured bond.

Due to the number of additional electronic and digital storage devices located, more charges are expected against Gandy.  This part of the investigation is ongoing.

Guyant said a person who is alleged to have committed second-degree exploitation of a minor knows the character or content of the material, and they either:

Record, photograph, film, develop, or duplicate material that contains a visual representation of a minor engaged in sexual activity

Distribute, transport, exhibit, receive, sell, purchase, exchange, or solicit material that contains a visual representation of a minor engaged in sexual activity.
