Halifax County Sheriff Tyree Davis said investigation of an apparent murder-suicide in the Scotland Neck area is ongoing.

He said on Wednesday around 4:30 a.m, deputies and detectives responded to a residence on Mary’s Chapel Road to a report of a shooting.

The shooting involved a husband and wife who were separated. Their names have not been released.

The investigation revealed the husband came to the house just prior to the shooting.

Shots were fired while he was inside the residence. The other occupants inside the residence were able to flee and contacted law enforcement.

Responding deputies entered the residence and found the husband and wife deceased at the scene.

Further investigation revealed the husband had shot his wife and then himself resulting in both their deaths.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of this horrific incident,” Davis said.
