Local Roanoke Rapids Boy Scout Troop 144 Scoutmaster Dan Harris was presented with The American Legion Department of North Carolina 2024 Scoutmaster of the Year award during the June State Convention in Raleigh.
Shaw-May Post 38 nominated Harris for the state award based on his leadership in providing experiential learning opportunities for his scouts through community-based service projects associated with Veterans Day, flag retirement ceremonies, and the National Wreaths Across America program.

The nomination stated, “There is no one more committed and dedicated than Dan Harris to the Boy Scouts of America mission to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.”
