The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell M. Harris:
A Roanoke Rapids area man now faces a murder charge following a shooting which occurred last Monday on Farmdale Drive.
Harris said the sheriff’s office received notice shortly after midnight that the victim in the case, the brother of the man charged — Steven Troy Wright — succumbed to the gunshot wound he sustained.
Lieutenant R. Somogyi obtained and served a murder warrant to Wright, 47. He remains in the Halifax County Detention Center without the opportunity for bond and will have a first appearance on the murder count in district court Tuesday. He had initially been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
The shooting occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the 100 block of Farmdale Drive in the Roanoke Rapids area.
When deputies and investigators arrived at the scene they found the victim, Herbert Lee Wright Jr., 47, on the front porch with a single gunshot wound.
Wright was arrested at the scene.
Halifax County EMS and members of the Davie Fire Department treated the victim. He was initially transported to ECU North and then later flown to a trauma center.
Missing person located
A Summit Road area woman has been located and is safe.
In an update shortly after 12:30 this afternoon, the major confirmed Alexis Catherine Ellis, 35, was located.
Ellis was last seen in the front yard of her residence around 3 p.m. on Sunday.
