Davis said the reason for the shooting remains under investigation.
The shooting occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the 100 block of Farmdale Drive in the Roanoke Rapids area.
When deputies and investigators arrived at the scene they found the victim, who the sheriff said is in his 40s, on the front porch with a single gunshot.
Wright of Roanoke Rapids was arrested at the scene and was jailed without the opportunity for bond. He has a July 25 district court date.
Halifax County EMS and members of the Davie Fire Department treated the victim. He was initially transported to ECU North and then later flown to a trauma center.
“Due to the quick response of the patrol deputies and investigators we were able to quickly apprehend the suspect without further trouble,” Davis said. “This was an apparent matter between the parties which remains under investigation and there is no threat to the community.”
