Alston Lamont Parker, who is currently awaiting a supervised release revocation hearing, is expected to be indicted on new charges based on an investigation by the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force in March.

In a motion to continue his hearing filed last week Parker’s federal public defender noted that a motion for revocation had been filed March 8 which alleges the violation of two counts of trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver marijuana, maintain a dwelling, place or vehicle for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

“In this case, the basis of the underlying violations is (the) alleged new criminal conduct charged by the state of North Carolina that the United States Attorney’s Office intends to pick up and indict,” G. Alan DuBois of the federal public defender’s office wrote in the motion. “(Assistant United States Attorney) Kimberly Dixon has indicated that she will have this matter indicted promptly and counsel can hopefully reach a negotiated resolution to both this revocation and the new criminal case within the time frame requested.”

The revocation hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday in Wilmington.

It is now scheduled for the August 6 term of court before Chief Judge Richard E. Myers II.

The upcoming revocation hearing as well as a new indictment stem from March 5 search warrants that were executed by the task force on Zoo Road South and New Hope Street.

The search warrant on Zoo Road was based on what Roanoke Rapids police Chief Shane Guyant described as copious hours of investigation and information from the public.

That search warrant yielded approximately 770 grams of cocaine, approximately 3.5 pounds of marijuana, 147 Oxycodone pills, a firearm, and approximately $12,999 in cash.

The New Hope Street search warrant yielded $11,851 in cash and a 2007 Lexus GS350 registered to Parker. The cash and vehicle were seized.
