The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Shane Guyant:

Officer B. Holcomb is looking for 26-year-old Jimmy I. Williams Jr. of Halifax.

Saturday shortly before 3 a.m. Holcomb responded to a larceny of a vehicle call in the area of West Tenth Street and learned Williams reportedly took a vehicle belonging to a woman with whom he previously had a relationship.

Around 4:30 a.m., Lieutenant M. Hunsucker observed the stolen vehicle in the area of West Tenth Street. 

Hunsucker attempted to stop the vehicle. Williams turned into a driveway, exited the vehicle and fled into a heavily wooded area.

With assistance of a canine track by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and its B Squad officers, a handgun thrown during the foot chase was found.

Williams is a felon from a 2016 robbery with a dangerous weapon conviction in Halifax County. 

He is wanted for: Firearm by a convicted felon, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and resist, delay and obstruct .

Williams also has other outstanding unserved warrants for arrest for break/enter a motor vehicle, felony larceny, felony larceny from a person, assault on a female, communicating threats and misdemeanor larceny.

Possible armed man at park

On Monday around 6 p.m. Officer M. Morris and Master Officer K. Williams responded to the area of Chockoyotte Park about a man walking around the pavilion area with a 30-round magazine exposed outside of a bookbag. 

The caller was concerned that the person had a gun in the bookbag as well. At the time recreational events were ongoing in the park. Officers rushed to the scene.

Morris spotted a man later identified as Anthony Devon Mills, 33, walking towards the back of Walmart but could not get turned around fast enough to approach him. 

Williams spotted him crossing Premier Boulevard. The officers located the man and searched him.

A 30-round magazine was removed from his pants pocket. The backpack contained an Airsoft pistol, an unlabeled pill bottle with two plastic baggies which contained 2 grams of crack cocaine, 25 Lorazepam pills, and marijuana in a cigar wrapper. 

Mills was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of schedule IV, and possession of schedule VI. 

He has a July 25 district court date.
