The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is investigating a shooting which occurred Tuesday morning around 2:30 in the 100 block of Washington Street.

Chief Shane Guyant said two dwellings were shot.

One of the dwellings had a single shot fired at the residence, but no bullets passed into the dwelling. The other dwelling had several shots fired at the residence, and two bullets entered the residence.

None of the occupants of either dwelling had any information to provide law enforcement.

Upon searching the crime scene, several shell casings were found in the yard across the street from the two dwellings.

The manner in which these casings were dispersed indicated the suspect was on foot.

No one in the area could provide any suspect information.

It is believed that the suspect may have some type of history with one of the residents in the dwelling where most of the shots were fired.

Investigators are still following the limited amount of leads available, the chief said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at its website or call 252-583-4444.
