A controlled delivery of a golf-ball size unit of methamphetamine resulted in the arrest of an Illinois man Friday, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest of 49-year-old Toby Shreves of Abingdon, Illinois, was part of work done Thursday and Friday by the narcotics division based on citizen drug complaints and joint investigations with the Weldon Police Department and United States Postal inspectors, Captain A.M. Harris of the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

On Friday the narcotics division received information from the postal service about a package which was intercepted before it reached a hotel room in the Weldon area, Harris said in the statement.

The package, which contained 14 grams of meth, was sent from California to Shreves, who had been staying in the Weldon area for about a week, Harris said this morning.

The sheriff’s office contacted Weldon police and the two agencies made a controlled delivery which led to the arrest of Shreves.

During a search of the room additional meth was seized along with several smoking pipes.

Harris said, according to the evidence, it’s believed the meth was for Shreves' personal use but investigation will continue to determine whether the man received any other packages.

Agent C. Dixon arrested and charged Shreves for possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Agent D.J. Epperson had received citizen complaints about this residence and followed up.
