Weldon police are looking for a Roanoke Rapids man who ran from just as he was about to be arrested Thursday night following a traffic stop.
Weldon police Chief Chris Davis said Paul Montrell Eley, 26, was stopped shortly before 10:30 p.m. after he reportedly ran a stop sign. Sergeant T. Mason and Officer S. McKimmey made the stop on Country Club Road near Stuart Circle.
As the officers prepared to handcuff him, Eley ran into a wooded area and he couldn’t be immediately located.
The officers located cocaine and paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Eley faces charges of felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, resist, delay and obstruct, failure to stop for stop sign and driving while license revoked.
Davis said Eley tends to frequent areas in Roanoke Rapids and Weldon. He is encouraged to surrender to law enforcement.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Mason at 252-536-1154 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
