A memorial tribute will be held in honor of Sarah Keys Evans Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the public art plaza at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Wyche Street.
Roanoke Rapids Parks and Recreation Director John Simeon said the 15-minute memorial tribute is being held by Reverend C.E. McCollum and members of the Sarah Keys Evans Committee.
Evans died November 16 and services for the woman who was arrested in Roanoke Rapids in 1952 for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white Marine will be at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadeloupe, 43 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, New Jersey.
Internment will be at The Evergreens Cemetery at 1:30 pm, 1629 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.
