The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Shane Guyant:

On Monday around 5:45 p.m. agents with the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force were patrolling the Roanoke Rapids area when they observed suspicious activity at the gas station traditionally known as Presto at at 142 Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

Agents observed the parties and subsequently conducted a traffic stop and identified them.  Following the traffic stop, probable cause was established by agents and a search warrant was obtained for a separate vehicle in the parking lot.  

This second vehicle was towed to a secure location where the search warrant was executed and inside agents discovered a small quantity of marijuana and a handgun reported stolen from South Carolina in 2007. 

Warrants have been obtained on Saquane Salika Tillery, 20, of Conoconnara Road in Halifax.  

He faces charges of misdemeanor simple possession of a controlled substance and possession of a stolen firearm.

Chase

On Saturday at approximately 9 p.m. PACE Officer J. Conrad observed a Toyota Tundra pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.  

Furthermore, the driver, identified later as Cobi Zane Hutsell of Lizella, Georgia, simultaneously failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Tenth Street and Roanoke Avenue. 

Conrad activated his emergency equipment and the 24-year-old Hutsell accelerated past him toward West Tenth Street.

A pursuit reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and Hutsell continued on West Tenth Street, turning off the vehicle’s headlights.

Hutsell ran the red light at the Zoo Road intersection, continuing at 100 miles per hour and nearly colliding with another vehicle.

On Thelma Road Hutsell continued driving at speeds of more than 100 while recklessly passing other vehicles in no-passing zones.

Hutsell eventually stopped at the Thelma Road-Huckleberry Bottom Road intersection.

Hutsell was determined to be impaired and also possessed a concealed pistol. 

He was charged with felony flee to elude, DWI, carrying a concealed weapon, speeding 115 in a 35 zone and multiple traffic offenses.

He received a $3,000 bond and November 30 court date.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted.
