Solarfest, the Center for Energy Education’s signature event, was held today at the campus on Airport Road.

Among the highlights was a check presentation by state Senator Bobby Hanig and Representative Michael Wray in the amount of $150,000 which will be used as seed money for a clean energy workforce lab.

The audience were entertained musically by the Roanoke Rapids High School Band and children from Weldon Elementary Global Academy, in which Hanig helped conduct.

Coverage of the event will continue Friday with remarks from keynote speaker Cornelius Jordan, chief of staff of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, as well as a video message from North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein.
