Drug arrest after pursuit

Captain Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Thursday shortly before 9 p.m. Deputy D. Bybee conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for fictitious tags and a safe movement violation in the area of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway and Old Farm Road.

The driver, later identified as 35-year-old Jessica Rivers of Weldon, stopped in the Pino’s parking lot and provided false information about her identity before abruptly fleeing in the vehicle.

Hall said Rivers led Bybee on a 3.5-mile pursuit in which speeds reached 100 miles per hour in a 45 zone before she came to a stop in Weldon.

Bybee located paraphernalia, alcohol and cocaine in the vehicle.

The deputy learned the woman’s license was permanently suspended due to an aggravated driving while impaired charge.

She was charged with felony flee to elude with a motor vehicle, felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked, reckless driving, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage.

She received a $5,000 secured bond and a September 8 court date.

The vehicle she was driving was seized per North Carolina’s Run and Done law.
