The Roanoke Rapids Police Department continues to investigate and has released surveillance photos from the Spears Pharmacy robbery on Becker Drive Monday.

Chief Shane Guyant said the masked and armed robbers moved all employees to the back at gunpoint and used a garbage bag to fill it with specific narcotics which he further described as controlled substances.

They fled in a vehicle which was recovered Monday afternoon. Forensic evidence was obtained and a search warrant was filed.

He said the amount of narcotics stolen is not immediately known and the pharmacy is conducting an audit which must be reported to the DEA.

Meanwhile, in addition to a similar robbery in Hope Mills on Wednesday, Guyant said one was reported in Henderson in January. “They are coordinated and organized and know exactly what they are looking for.”

The police chief said it is not believed the suspects are local. “We have some good leads.”

In the Hope Mills robbery the suspects backed a black Kia Sportage into a spot on the side of the pharmacy building where the two got out of the front and back passenger side of the vehicle carrying empty bags. The suspect in all black brandished a handgun upon entering the building.

They took an unknown amount of assorted controlled substances and currency before leaving the building.
