The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Captain Scott Hall:

Friday around 5 p.m. Deputy D. Bybee stopped a vehicle for displaying a fictitious registration plate and equipment violation on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway in Roanoke Rapids.

The driver, later identified as Hakeem Martin, provided a false name and then ran on foot from the traffic stop. He was apprehended a short time later by Deputy J. Snider.

Martin, 25, of Gaston, was also found to be a probation absconder and in possession of approximately 4 grams of cocaine.

Martin was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, fictitious registration, providing fictitious information to an officer, and resist, obstruct, or delay an officer.

He received a $7,500 bond on Bybee’s charges and was jailed without the opportunity for bond for the probation violations.

He has an August 14 court date on the charges Bybee lodged and an August 15 court date on the charges previously lodged.

The previously lodged charges include resisting a public officer, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, open container after consuming, misdemeanor probation violation, false report to police station and the traffic infraction of failing to dim headlights.

Officers with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department assisted in the arrest of Martin.
