There will be a three-way race in the Roanoke Rapids City Council District 1 race as challengers Jacob Dean and Robert “Robbie” Clements vie to unseat incumbent Rex Stainback.
Today at noon was the deadline for filing to run in the November 7 municipal elections.
In other city council race news, incumbent District 3 Councilman Carl Ferebee elected not to seek another term, leaving newcomer Warren “Keith” Bell as the sole contender for that seat.
Incumbent Councilwoman Sandra W. Bryant is running unopposed.
In Scotland Neck, two challengers — Leroy Powell and James Savage — are looking to unseat incumbent Mayor Eddie Braxton.
In the Scotland Neck town board race incumbents Charlie Shields, Raymond Watson and James Gunnells are seeking re-election while challenger Raymond Hyman Sr. is looking to grab one of the seats.
The remainder of the filings, according to the Halifax County Board of Elections, are as follows:
Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District board
Incumbents James E. Kerr II, Jon Baker and Colby Lyles are running unopposed.
Roanoke Rapids Graded Schools District Board
Incumbents Valencia Davis, Henry Ford, and Michael “Mike” Salanik have filed as well as challengers David Pericak and Carlton Ansley.
Town of Enfield at-large
Challenger Vincent D. Nicholson is running against incumbent Tracey Joyner.
Town of Enfield District A
Challenger Angela Williams Harper is running against incumbent Bud A. Whitaker.
Town of Enfield District B
Michael A. Redic Sr. is running. Incumbent Kent Holmes did not file.
Town of Halifax
Mayor John White is running unopposed.
Halifax Town Board
Incumbents Patterson Wilson, Lisa Turner and Christina Wells and newcomers Kelly D. Dickens and Meredith R. Holdford filed. Incumbents Kayla Mason and William F. Johnson did not file.
Town of Hobgood
Incumbent Mayor Dannie A. Flanary is running unopposed.
Hobgood Town Board
Incumbents Sallie Leggett Smith and Milton Armston re-filed. Newcomer Doug Braddy filed. Incumbent Julian Padgette did not file.
Town of Littleton
Incumbents Lynn Moseley and Ophelia Gould-Faison are seeking re-election. Incumbent Jim Skelton did not re-file.
Weldon Town Board
Jennifer Cox and incumbent Nancy Sandoval are running.
