The Roanoke Valley Shrine Club recently made a donation to the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department to help with the annual Fire Safety Fair which is scheduled in August at Centennial Park.

“We’re very appreciative of the generosity of the shrine club donation and we will put it to good use as we continue to plan the event,” Chief Jason Patrick said.

Patrick said the Fire Safety Fair is scheduled for August 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.and will coincide with the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce’s final Music in the Park concert.

“We’re still in the planning stages,” Patrick said. “It will be similar to what we did last year.”

More information will be released at a later date.

The concerts, which occur the last Friday of the month, are also held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and began on May 26 with Wild Country. “It was great to have a happy and enthusiastic crowd come out to Centennial Park,” said Esther Harris, business education partnership manager with the chamber.

The concerts are free and food trucks and other concessions are available. “All you need to bring are folding chairs or a blanket and a few dollars to buy your family’s dinner from local food trucks,” she said.
