The Roanoke Rapids Fire Department will begin its annual hydrant testing on Monday.
Chief Jason Patrick said this process consists of taking pressure readings on each hydrant which allows the fire department to check performance.
Testing also helps with locating valves that may be closed, which would restrict water flow for firefighting purposes.
Check tap water for discoloration before drinking, bathing or washing clothes.
If your water is discolored, turn the cold water tap on until the water runs clear.
The fire department hopes to finish the hydrant testing as soon as possible and apologizes for any inconvenience.
