While the Roanoke Rapids Police Department continues its search for Kunta Shearin, another man, Keyon West, has been added to the city’s list of missing persons.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said Monday the department received notification on December 5 that West had not been seen since around noon on December 2.

“Upon receiving information, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department started conducting an investigation and followed up on numerous tips and information but we have not located Mr. West at this time,” Martin said.

There are some details on West’s disappearance that the police are not sharing with the public, Martin confirmed.

He had no comment when asked about some of West’s past brushes with the law and whether they were related to his disappearance.

He also declined comment when asked whether West’s disappearance was related to Shearin’s disappearance.

“We are actively conducting follow-ups with the aid of the SBI (North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation),” Martin said.

Martin said the department and the SBI were out Monday following up on leads.

Martin said it is important to find these two men. “We would like to find out what has happened to these two men,” he said. “It is the holiday season and the family would like to have some answers. I know someone knows what happened.”

Halifax County Sheriff Tyree Davis said his office is assisting Roanoke Rapids as requested “and are following up on any leads we get.”

West had been a suspect in the Glenview quadruple homicides of 2017 but had charges dismissed after one of the defendants, James Powell, recanted his statement about West, Dontavious Cotton, and Matthew Simms being involved.

In light of the three dismissals in the case, Davis said the sheriff’s office continues to investigate.

In September Roanoke Rapids police released information that Shearin was missing after he was named a suspect in two July robberies.
