The following are the announced Roanoke Valley Veterans Day services:

Center for Energy Education

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. C4EE welcomes veterans, elected officials, community leaders and the public to a free Veterans Day program Thursday at 460 Airport Road in Roanoke Rapids, to celebrate the roles of these individuals for their service to the country.

Thanks to community partners, NC Works, the Turning Point Workforce Development Board, and the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce, the program features information for job placement, benefit support and health resources, including a shot clinic for flu vaccines and COVID boosters.

Trian Hammie, medical support administration supervisor for the Department of Veteran Affairs in Emporia will also be onsite to discuss veteran benefits with interested veterans.

Retired U.S. Army veteran Martin L. Brown will be the keynote speaker.

As program manager at the Department of the Army’s Transportation Management and Non-Tactical Vehicle Fleet, he provided administrative policy and procedural guidance to the offices of the secretary of defense, secretary of the army, senior army leaders and 30 army command fleet managers.

With 37 years of logistical and transportation experience, Brown served 20 years in the Army as a senior non-commissioned officer.

During this time, he held various logistical positions at multiple echelons.

Upon retirement, he served as a Department of the Army civilian, continuing work in the logistics and transportation career fields.

Brown began his civilian career working at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

He transitioned to assistant chief of staff installation management as a base realignment program manager where he was responsible for various Army installation closures, realignments, and new construction projects with an estimated value of $1 billion.

In his current role, Brown manages fleets, cargo, personal property, and personnel for 160 Army installations worldwide.

He has a B.S. degree in management, human resources management and he is pursuing a B.S. degree in criminal justice administration.

“Our veterans are a very important and substantial fiber within our community,” said Mozine Lowe, executive director of C4EE. “These men and women help shape America’s foreign affairs policy, but they also help us be advocates of democracy and justice. They generously and bravely protect our rights and freedoms as they provide service and aid throughout the world.”

C4EE’s program will include the presentation of colors and drills by Roanoke Rapids High School’s JROTC, followed by opening remarks from Levi Scott, a retired Air Force chief master sergeant.

Taylor Hawkins, manager of the Roanoke Rapids NC Works office, will give the welcome. Whitney Sessoms, C4EE workforce development manager, will give the invocation.

Additionally, Walt Watts, Doris Richardson and Kenneth Belfield will present musical selections. Warren County Board of Commissioners Chairman Tare Davis will lead the moment of silence for fallen veterans.

Joshua Pair, co-pastor at Patillo Chapel Missionary Church and a retired Army major, will lead the prayer for veterans.

Closing remarks will be delivered by Vera Morris, 2023 Ms. United  World, who is accompanying her veteran parents, as well as Frince Williams, business engagement coordinator for the Turning Point Workforce Development Board, and Lowe.

Lunch will be provided after which a cake ceremony will be held to celebrate the U.S. Marine Corps birthday.
