The American Legion Shaw May Post 38 in Roanoke Rapids donated $500 to support local Boy Scouts Troop 144 and National Wreaths Across America Day.

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember fallen United States veterans; honor those who serve; and teach children the value of freedom.

This day is an annual event that takes place every third Saturday in December at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as other cemeteries in the United States, at sea, and abroad. Wreaths are laid as family and friends remember both those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and those who currently serve in the armed forces.

The deadline to purchase a wreath is November 28.

The scouts will conduct their annual ceremony at noon on December 17 at Cedarwood Cemetery.

To order a wreath or for more information contact Scoutmaster Dan Harris at 252-532-0113 or email him at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
