A 29-year-old Rich Square man died in a single vehicle crash in Northampton County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly before 10:45 p.m. Saturday on Tyler Road when Daniel Espinoza Gonzalez was driving a vehicle south and ran off the road to the right, according to a preliminary report by Trooper S.D. Parrish.

The driver overcorrected the vehicle, crossed the centerline and ran off the road to the left where it collided with a ditch. The vehicle then collided with a tree and overturned, coming to rest on its side against a tree.

The crash, according to the report, occurred 3.6 miles east of Rich Square and about 2 miles south of Highway 305.

Parrish listed the contributing circumstance as overcorrection.
