The city of Roanoke Rapids observed the 21st anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks in a brief Patriot’s Day ceremony this morning in Centennial Park.

Fire Chief Jason Patrick and City Manager Kelly Traynham were called into service to hold the program after the event’s primary organizer had to unexpectedly miss the ceremony.

Patrick and Traynham each addressed the small audience which attended this year’s program and Deputy Chief Wes Hux rang the bell during the part of the ceremony honoring the firefighters who lost their lives in the aftermath of the attacks.
