On Sunday shortly after 1 p.m. Detective C. Batchelor attempted to stop a vehicle for a violation in the area of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway and Virginia Avenue.

The driver, later identified as Jalen Garner, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, fled from the officer and began driving in a reckless manner in an attempt to elude law enforcement.

Garner wrecked at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Wyche Street. He fled from the vehicle and was seen running with a firearm in his hand.

He was captured without trouble.

Garner faces charges of possession with intent to sell or deliver schedules I and VI, felony possession of schedule I, felony flee to elude law enforcement, possession of schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of resist, delay, or obstruct an officer, and leaving the scene of an accident after property damage.

On Saturday around 3:45 a.m. Officer C. Walker was in the area of East Tenth Street when he noticed a vehicle in the lot of Toyota of Roanoke Rapids with the lights on and engine running.

The driver, later identified as Linda Pittman, 34, of Winterville, was slumped as if asleep.

Pittman did not respond to the officer’s first knock on the window. Walker knocked harder and the woman looked up and became irate. She refused to roll the window down so the officer could check on her well-being.

Pittman placed the car in drive and attempted to leave. Walker got the door open and placed the vehicle in park.

The officer noticed the odor of alcohol on the driver and found a concealed handgun during a search.

Pittman was arrested under suspicion of driving while impaired and carrying a concealed weapon.

She received a $500 bond and August 25 court date.
