A recount of votes requested by one of the candidates in the Halifax County Board of Education race Thursday did not drastically change the outcome.

Challenger Rodney D. Pierce, who had requested the recount, gained two additional votes, board of elections Supervisor Kristin Scott said this afternoon. Pierce finished the May 17 primary with a total of 1,906 for a fourth-place finish. According to unofficials returns the night of the primary he had collected 1,904.

The recount did not change results for incumbent Joyce Lashley, who finished in third in a race in which voters cast ballots for three candidates. Lashley finished with 1,939 votes.

Scott said the recount process began at 11:10 a.m. and finished around 3:45 p.m.
