Incumbent House District 27 state Representative Michael Wray sailed to victory Tuesday over challenger Jerry McDaniel.

Wray collected 79 percent of the votes on his way to a 10,832 to 2,879, according to unofficial results.

“I’d just like to thank the voters for their continued support in the primaries and the vote of confidence,” he said.

Wray will face Republican Wes Tripp, who is currently the sheriff of Halifax County, in November. “I look forward to the general election and representing everyone for the future of North Carolina and our district.”

He said in the short session, which began today, he and other lawmakers will be looking at further funding opportunities for the district.

Tripp said, “I am looking forward to moving ahead as the Republican nominee for House District 27.”
