The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

Sunday around 8:30 p.m. Officer K. Williams and members of A squad responded to the 900 block of Washington Street on a report of a man firing multiple shots.

The man was later identified as Lentrick High, 44, of Roanoke Rapids, and claimed to officers he was a certified law enforcement officer which Martin said was not true.

Officers were told someone had been shot, a report which ended up being incorrect.

Officers learned that High had pointed a shotgun at a victim, fired at them but missed.

Officers recovered several spent shells and the shotgun used in the assault.

High left the home prior to officers arriving, but was taken into custody later in the evening as he returned.

High was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of resist, delay and obstruct, two counts of assault on a government official for pushing and pulling away, and impersonating a law enforcement officer.

He received a $17,000 bond and April 28 court date.

“I would also like to thank Lieutenant A. Cash and Sergeant D. Newsome with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance along with other squad members to investigate this case,” Martin said.

On Saturday shortly before 10:30 p.m Officer J. Melvin was in the area of East Tenth Street and Park Avenue looking for a careless and reckless driver.

While in the area Melvin noticed someone later identified as David Fowler, 64, drive into a business parking lot and do donuts in his presence.

Melvin determined that Fowler was possibly driving while impaired.

Fowler was charged with driving while impaired, possession of schedule II, and careless and reckless driving.

He received a $1,000 bond and May 17 court date.

On Saturday shortly after 2 a.m. Officer Darrius Epps was on patrol in the area of Roanoke Avenue and Fourth Street when he noticed the driver of a vehicle was unable to maintain lane control.
