Halifax County has reduced its percentage of positive COVID-19 cases to 4.1 percent and moved out of the red category to the yellow which shows a medium level of community transmission, the health department reported today.

“Congratulations to the citizens of Halifax County,” health Director Bruce Robistow said. “We have attained the goals that have been set and this is a great opportunity for more people to get vaccinated so we can prevent or reduce the effect of future variants and potential spikes.”

Robistow said because the county has reached the goals set, “I’m comfortable with going to mask optional in appropriate areas leaving masks mandatory in healthcare facilities.”

He also commended both Halifax County and Weldon schools for keeping masks mandatory throughout the height of the pandemic.

Today the health department reported a total of 13,881 cases since March of 2020 with 32 new positives added today. The health department reported one death related to the virus, which brings the total 177.

There have been 13,610 — 98.09 percent — patients who have recovered and 88 who have not recovered.

Northampton County

The health department Wednesday reported there have been 4,300 total positive cases of which 4,208 have recovered. There were 15 active cases. There have been 77 related deaths.
