There have been 673 samples collected as of Wednesday during the ongoing COVID-19 testing event at the Roanoke Rapids Theatre, the Halifax County Health Department said today.

Of that number, 30.61 percent tested positive and 69.39 percent tested negative.

Meanwhile, as of today, the health department reports 12,910 total positive cases since March of 2020. The health department today also added five additional deaths related to the virus, which brings the total to 155.

In its report for today the health department added 853 new positive cases since its report last week.

Of the 12,057 cumulative cases, 10,611 have recovered — 83.68 percent — and 1,914 have not recovered — 15.09 percent.

“We are seeing a decline in the number of positive cases,” health Director Bruce Robistow said, adding, however, “The numbers still reflect a high volume of positive cases. We need to continue the downward trend by getting vaccinated and wearing our masks indoors and in public through this spike.”

Although the decline is going in a positive direction on this variant, Robistow said with fully vaccinated citizens in the county at 52 percent, “I have continued concern about pending new variants.”

Robistow said he is fairly pleased with the number of people who have visited the theater clinic. “We have the capacity to do 1,000 persons per day and would like to test as many persons as possible.”
