The Meherrin River Arts Council has announced their 2019 annual concert series and this year it features another terrific lineup.

From country music superstars and legendary comedians, to 50’s and 60’s hitmakers, and rock ‘n’ roll icons, this season is simply outstanding.

On February 9 country music superstar Josh Turner kicks of the series. With his rich, deep voice and distinctive style, MCA Nashville recording artist Josh Turner is one of country music’s most recognizable hit-makers. Turner has sold more than 8 million units, and is one of the youngest members of the esteemed Grand Ole Opry. From his 2003 platinum-selling debut, Long Black Train, to his 2017 Billboard No. 1 release, Deep South, Turner has garnered multiple GRAMMY, CMA, and ACM nominations and received six Inspirational Country Music Awards.

Turner’s hits include “Hometown Girl,” “Time Is Love,” “Would You Go With Me,” “Your Man,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” and “Long Black Train.”

Turner recently released his seventh album “I Serve A Savior,” his first ever Gospel record, which debuted at the top of the Country and Christian charts.

Adding to the amazing mix of talent on March 9 is comedy legend Sinbad. Ranked by Comedy Central as one of the “100 Greatest Standups of All Time,” actor and comedian Sinbad has had audiences laughing for over three decades. Throughout his incredibly successful career as a standup comedian, Sinbad has starred in two Comedy Central specials and four HBO comedy specials.

As an actor, Sinbad has been featured in leading roles in such films as JINGLE ALL THE WAY and GOOD BURGER, and on the FX super series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Currently Sinbad can be seen using his comic talent as one of the stars of the new sitcom "REL" Sunday nights on Fox.

Sinbad’s side-splitting comedy will keep you laughing through the evening and promises to be an incredibly fun and exciting show.

If the rock ‘n’ roll was your favorite era of music you will absolutely love the Million Dollar Quartet. Scheduled for April 13, Million Dollar Quartet is the Tony
Award-winning smash-hit musical inspired by the famed recording session that brought together rock ‘n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins for the first and only time.

On December 4, 1956, these four young musicians gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll jam sessions ever. Million Dollar Quartet brings that unbelievable musical moment to life, featuring timeless and enduring hits including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “That’s All Right,” “Sixteen Tons,” “I Walk the Line,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” and more.

Closing out the 2019 series on May 11 is Doo Wop Live. Join the MRAC for a blast from the past as they welcome some of the biggest hit-makers from the 50’s and 60’s. Featuring The Flamingos, Joey Dee & The Starliters, Danny & The Juniors, Jay Siegel’s Tokens, and The Crystals, this show is filled with legends from one of music’s most recognizable eras. These bands have sold millions of records and led the charts with songs that are timeless and known around the world. This is an amazing opportunity to hear them live!
