The railroad crossing in Halifax off Highway 301 near West Pittsylvania Street will be closed to traffic on Tuesday at 6 a.m.

The crossing is expected to reopen the following day, January 19, around 5 p.m.

The notice was sent to Halifax County government by Southern Commercial Development which works with CSX Transportation to provide traffic control and detour signage for rail crossing closures requiring maintenance and emergency repairs.

CSX has scheduled the crossing to be closed for an emergency repair due to a surfacing defect.

Signage will be in place marking detour routes.

Any and all dates are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists should anticipate extended travel times and delays and avoid the closure area if possible.
