The Roanoke Rapids Police Department made the following DWI arrests over the weekend, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

On Saturday shortly before 3 a.m. Officer H. Baker was patrolling in the area of Highway 48 and Tenth Street when he noticed the driver of a pickup travelling in front of him with no rear lights. Baker activated blue lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as Jonathan Green, 30, of the Roanoke Rapids area, was slow to stop, but eventually stopped near Highway 48 and Jefferson Street.

Baker detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver and Officer J. Wind arrived on scene to assist.

Green was arrested and charged with DWI and has a January 28 court date.

Sunday shortly before 8:30 p.m. Officer D. Epps and Master Officer D. Newsome responded to a vehicle whose driver had collided with a ditch at Rollingwood and Dunshill roads.

The officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, who was identified as James Cutchin, 20, of the Roanoke Rapids area.

Cutchin was charged with driving while impaired, provisional license driving while impaired, and improper lane change.

He received a January 28 court date and was released to a responsible party.
