The Roanoke Rapids Police Department held its first phase of Christmas for Kids this morning and second wave was scheduled to begin this afternoon at Walmart.

The annual Christmas for Kids shopping event was slated to help at least 45 children get clothes and toys.

Outside Walmart members of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office were conducting its annual toy drive and will be there until 5 p.m. The sheriff’s office will return to Walmart this coming Friday and Saturday through 5 p.m. to collect new unwrapped toys as well as cash donations. The items will be distributed between the area school systems.
