With the National Weather Service’s briefing late this afternoon showing the chance of dangerous travel conditions through Tuesday morning due to black ice, most schools are operating on delayed schedules while some have opted to close.

The NWS Raleigh office reports a light batch of mixed wintry precipitation may develop over the Coastal Plain this evening but accumulation is expected to be fairly light.

The agency warns, however,  “Even a light coating of snow or sleet on the roads can create travel difficulties.”

The NWS advises travel will remain difficult in areas where the snowpack is still located due to re-freeze or black ice.

Otherwise, the high temperature Tuesday is expected to be 41 degrees with an overnight low of 27.

Roanoke Rapids City Manager Joseph Scherer confirmed the city will be operating on a normal schedule Tuesday.

The Weldon Town Board of Commissioners meeting for this evening in which the board was expected to vote on the sale of the Super Sturdy building has been moved to next Monday night at 6.
