The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Roanoke Rapids man bailed from a moving vehicle and ran while a deputy was attempting to stop him.
The crime occurred around 7 p.m. Friday as Deputy D. Bybee was on patrol in the area of East Eleventh Street and Washington Avenue in Weldon.
Chief Deputy Scott Hall said Bybee observed a man later identified as Desmond King, 27, driving a Camry with fictitious plates.
Bybee attempted to conduct a stop when King jumped from the vehicle and fled.
Through the investigation the driver was identified as King, who according to the state court calendar, has several pending superior court dates for charges such as robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and several drug offenses.
Bybee secured warrants for King’s arrest on charges of driving while license revoked, fictitious registration plates, and resist, delay, and obstruct an officer.
