The health department did add one related death to the virus, which brings the number to 132.
The 101 new positive cases bring the total since March of last year to 7,542.
Of those total positive cases, 7,063 — 93.84 percent — have recovered. There were 382 active cases.
The Associated Press reported Wednesday that deaths related to COVID-19 in the United States are coming down again. The news agency also reported hospitalizations are dropping, and new cases per day are about to dip below 100,000 for the first time in two months, signs the AP reported indicate the summer surge is waning.
The News and Observer of Raleigh reported Tuesday that other measures in the state also show that the summer surge of coronavirus continues to wane.
The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 on Sunday was 2,690, down from more than 3,800 a month ago.
The newspaper also reported that the portion of coronavirus tests that were positive was 8.4 percent on Saturday, which is down from as much as 14 percent in recent weeks, and matches the average of 8.3 percent over the past week.
