The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

On Friday a man with active warrants was reported to be in the Jessalyn Drive area of the Southgate community around 9 p.m.

Officer H. Baker and Sergeant M. Hunsucker responded and discovered the man, later identified as Jonathan Lucas, 29, of the Roanoke Rapids area, had fled behind buildings near the tree line.

Martin said officers had been looking for Lucas for several hours when he ran from them earlier in the day.

Officers with the help of Hunsucker and his dog Dubai entered the woods and located Lucas on the ground near a tree.

Lucas was brought before a magistrate who served him with outstanding warrants.

As he was en route to jail, officers discovered he had .01 grams of crack in his possession as well as a homemade pipe.

The warrants served on Lucas stem from not only the activity Friday but a two- to three-week span where Martin said he was “terrorizing and assaulting and taking property” from a female acquaintance.

In all, Lucas was charged with resist, delay, and obstruct, injury to property, injury to real property, first-degree burglary, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony possession of stolen goods, assault on a female, a second count of felony possession of stolen goods, felony possession of schedule II, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lucas, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, is on active parole, which was set to expire in November.

He received a $12,000 bond and July 7 court date.

With further investigation and assistance from Master Officer D. Newsome the driver was taken into custody for suspicion of DWI. A magistrate charged Trisvan with DWI. He was released to a responsible person and received an August 13 court date.

Vann and the passenger were asked to step out of the vehicle and further investigation revealed a bottle of alcohol and 4.20 grams of marijuana.
