A 30-year-old Roanoke Rapids man was fatally shot late Thursday night, according to police Chief Bobby Martin.

In a statement early this morning Martin said officers and EMS responding to the 300 block of Monroe Street discovered Frederick Lee inside the residence. It appeared he had been shot in the upper body and did not survive.

Police responded to a shooting call at the residence shortly before 11:30 Thursday night.
