A man who had been listed as wanted by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office on drug charges last week surrendered to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department when he discovered the warrants were outstanding on him.

Dante Sutton, 45, surrendered on April 1, he said, and the sheriff’s office confirmed today.

Captain A.M. Harris confirmed that Sutton had surrendered prior to a press release that was sent out last Thursday. He said at the time the sheriff’s office had not received information that Sutton, of Roanoke Rapids, had already dealt with the matter.

Sutton faces charges of sell cocaine, deliver cocaine and possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine. He has a court date set for Thursday in Halifax County District Court.

Meanwhile, another man listed in last week’s press release, was served, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Terell Johnson, 43, of Roanoke Rapids, faces charges of conspire to sell/deliver cocaine and two counts each of sell cocaine, deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine and maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance. Johnson has a May 20 court date.

These investigations were conducted by Agents D.J. Epperson and H.G. Phillips.

Sergio Newell, 44, is still wanted for sell cocaine, deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine.
