Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said in a statement Sceva Kendall Jr., 21, faces charges of felony flee to elude arrest, hit and run with personal injury, resist delay and obstruct, careless and reckless driving, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, fictitious information to an officer, and flee to elude arrest. He was also served outstanding orders for arrest for a probation violation and possession of marijuana.

The events occurred shortly after 11:45 Friday night when Sergeant M. Hunsucker observed a vehicle in the 700 block of Roanoke Avenue traveling in the opposite direction with lighting issues.

Hunsucker turned, followed the vehicle and stopped it.

Kendall put his hands out of the window as the sergeant approached, then put his hands back inside and drove off.

Hunsucker returned to his vehicle and pursued the driver, who reportedly tried to evade officers by running stop signs and lights.

At Becker Drive Kendall, at the Old Farm Road intersection, went through a red light and collided with another vehicle. He was observed climbing out of the vehicle and running towards White Motors. He was apprehended at the rear of the business near a chain-link fence.

While checking for weapons officers found 11 grams of marijuana reportedly in Kendall’s possession.

The occupants in the vehicle Kendall collided with received injuries, but none appeared to be life-threatening at this time. A 4-year-old child in the vehicle of the victim did not sustain injuries.

A check of his vehicle yielded a pill bottle with an unknown crystal-like substance believed to be narcotics. A bag of ammunition was found, but no weapon was located.

He received a $15,000 cash bond for the outstanding orders and a $10,300 bond for the remaining charges. Charges by the Weldon Police Department and state Probation and Parole are included in the counts lodged against him. He has a March 3 court date.
