Two Roanoke Rapids men were charged today for reportedly shooting into a house in the 300 block of Franklin Street.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said detectives are still investigating the matter to establish motive in the case.

No one in the house was injured, he said in a statement.

The shooting took place shortly before 12:30 this afternoon.

Martin said in the statement officers J. Horne and N. Powell were in the 400 block of Franklin Street when they heard gunshots that appeared to be coming from the 300 block.

They gave out the information to other officers and a witness gave a description of a vehicle.

Officer C. Batchelor was monitoring the situation when he noticed a vehicle fitting the description the witness gave.

The driver was travelling north on Third and Hamilton streets at a high rate of speed. Batchelor attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver reportedly disregarded the lights and siren and continued to drive at a high rate of speed, passing other vehicles illegally.

When the vehicle went across the Gaston bridge the passenger threw the gun out and the driver continued into Gaston, eventually stopping near Craig Street.
