The city's parks and recreation department, Main Street Roanoke Rapids, and the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau along with other sponsors ushered in the Christmas season with Joy in the Park at Centennial Park as well as the 1026 Urban Greenspace on Roanoke Avenue this afternoon and evening.

At the greenspace, Christmas music was played and children had the opportunity to talk with Santa and fill out a letter to the Jolly Old Elf to tell him their Christmas wishes. Santa also made a stop at The Mill Coffee & Eatery at 1020 Roanoke Avenue.

At Centennial Park Santa made another appearance, stepping out of one of the fire department's utility vehicles to talk to children and adults alike after a police-escorted ride-a-long. Food trucks were also on hand to feed those who attended.

The displays at Centennial Park will remain lighted and Christmas music will be played throughout the season.
