The Halifax County Health Department today reported the 36th death related to the novel coronavirus.

The ZIP code area map contained in the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 dashboard shows the death was within the Halifax area ZIP code and is the second death reported from within that area.

The breakdown of deaths is as follows: 19 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; five within the Enfield area ZIP code; four within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code; three within the Weldon area ZIP code; two within the Halifax area ZIP code; two within the Littleton area ZIP code; and one within the Hollister area ZIP code.

Today the health department also added 75 new positives to its data since its last report on November 25.

The 75 new positives push the total cumulative positives since testing began in March to 1,988.

Today the numbers show a decrease in the amount of new positive cases, which the health department said is reflective of minimal testing and reporting over the holiday weekend.

The health department continues to encourage residents to practice the Three Ws — handwashing; wearing a facial covering; and waiting 6-feet apart.
