A shooting in which the victim was shot in the arm Thursday night remains under investigation, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

The victim, a man in his 30s, has not been cooperative with law enforcement, Chief Bobby Martin said in a statement this morning.

Officers responded to the area of the 1800 block of Daniel Street shortly after 7 p.m. after receiving a shots fired call.

As officers responded they were notified a person had been shot. The person was not cooperative and would not give information on what provoked the shooting or where it took place.

Martin said this morning the victim was outside when he was shot but could not say whether it was a drive-by style shooting.

The victim was taken to the hospital and again approached by officers. The victim told the officers he didn’t want to tell them anything.

Martin said despite the victim’s unwillingness to cooperate the police department will continue its investigation. “Regardless of whether you like police or not, we still have sworn an oath to protect and serve whether you believe in us or not. We went to render aid and investigate what was going on.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
