The Halifax County Health Department this evening reported the 30th death related to the novel coronavirus.

According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Services’ COVID-19 ZIP code database, the death was reported within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code. It is the third death to be reported within that area.

The breakdown of deaths is as follows: 17 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; three within the Enfield area ZIP code; three within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code; three within the Weldon area ZIP code; two within the Littleton area ZIP code; one within the Halifax area ZIP code; and one within the Hollister area ZIP code. 

The health department also reported the total cumulative positives since testing began in March is now at 1,522. It said 21 new positive cases were added today.

The health department reported the 29th death related to the virus Wednesday and also updated its weekly recoveries and current cases data, showing 1,274 recoveries and 209 current cases.

This evening’s graphical information shows a sustained increase in the trend of positives since March 25.

The health department continues to encourage residents to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said. 

Northampton County

The health department reported today there are currently 641 total positive cases of which 561 have recovered. It reported there are 57 active cases. There have been 23 deaths.
