The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

Friday shortly after 5:30 p.m. Officer C. Roberts was in the area of Walmart about a person in the area who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

While en route to the vehicle Officer Roberts heard Officer S. Langley and Gaston police Chief C. Dixon conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle they were looking for.

Once Officer Roberts arrived, he saw three subjects out of the vehicle and being taken into custody.

Cross arrived with Midas to do a check of the vehicle after Salmon advised he noticed a handgun in the door pocket of the driver’s door.

Midas gave a positive indication there was or could be drugs in the vehicle.

During the search of the vehicle the following items were recovered: a 40-caliber handgun; two Oxycodone pills; a brown and black handgun with no serial number or brand; American Tactical Omni Hybrid .223 rifle; and a white powdery substance in a white baggie.

Javon Williams 29, the driver, who is from the Weldon area, was charged on an outstanding warrant for arrest for possessing a controlled substance on prison/jail premises, and conspiring to sell/deliver schedule  VI.

He was placed under a $5,000 bond with a Wednesday court date.

He was also served warrants for second-degree kidnapping; breaking and entering; possession of a firearm by felon; and impersonating a law enforcement officer.

He received a $275,000 bond and Wednesday court date.

No charges were filed on the third person in the vehicle.

Seized in the stop were .9 grams of fentanyl and two dosage units of Oxycodone.

Salmon, Cross, Langley and Roberts assisted.

“We would like to thank Chief Corey Dixon from the Gaston Police Department for working closely with our agency to bring these subjects into custody,” Martin said in a statement.

Friday around 3:30 p.m. Officer A. Bradley was on patrol in the area of Virginia Avenue and Julian R. Allsbrook Highway when he approached the intersection. He heard horns blowing and tires screeching.

Bradley observed a green truck cutting through a parking lot, which caused other drivers to slam brakes and blow horns.

Bradley proceeded to stop the vehicle while the driver, later identified as Dawn Tripp, 35, of the Gaston area, continued on to a residence in the 600 block of Thirteenth Street.

The passenger exited the vehicle after the stop.

Sergeant R. Cross assisted Bradley, who spoke with the driver.

The driver presented an identification card to the officer. Tripp was asked to step out of the vehicle under suspicion of driving while impaired.

Cross’s dog Midas did an open air sniff and gave a positive indication there was potentially narcotics in the vehicle.

Bradley conducted a search and located several items — two cut straws, a white powdery substance wrapped in paper, and marijuana.

Tripp was charged with DWI; possession of schedule II; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of schedule VI; failure to heed blue lights and siren; and driving while license revoked. Tripp was placed under a $5,000 bond with a December 12 court date.

There were 1.90 grams of marijuana and .90 grams of fentanyl seized.

Lieutenant A. Salmon and Detective M. Worrell assisted.
