Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office

Chief Deputy Scott Hall said Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. deputies responded to the Allendale Drive area of Roanoke Rapids near Zoo Road on a shooting call.

The victim was transported to Vidant North with gunshot wounds to his torso, arms and legs.  

As a result of his injuries he was later transported to another trauma medical facility where he is listed in fair condition. 

Detectives continue to investigate the motive and follow up on leads.

Weldon Police Department

Chief Christopher Davis reported on Thursday shortly before 6 p.m. Officer S. McKimmey conducted a traffic stop in the area of Highway 158 and Mulberry Street for a traffic offense. During McKimmey’s investigation he discovered the driver had a suspended license, no insurance on the vehicle, and a fictitious registration plate.

McKimmey identified the driver as Donnell Bryant, 56, of Enfield, and placed him under arrest before taking him to a magistrate.

Bryant was charged with driving while license revoked, fictitious registration plate, and no insurance on a motor vehicle. 

He received a $1,000 secured bond and November 9 court date.
