The trend line of positive cases of the novel coronavirus in Halifax County shows a slight decrease, the health department reported in its daily update.

The health department reported it is aware of 794 positive cases since testing began. Thursday it reported 789.

There have been nine related deaths in Halifax County — eight within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code and one within the Weldon area ZIP code.

The health department encourages residents to continue to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said.

Northampton County 

The health department reported Thursday there were 361 total positive cases of which 319 have recovered. There have been 17 deaths.
